I love furniture that has this type of engraved or recessed detailing. If done right, engraved furniture designs can really accentuated a restyled piece. You can opt to paint over these details with a light hand and dry brush so NO paint gets into the detailing, or what I think is a MUCH easier way is paint as you normally would – and don’t worrying if your paint gets into the grooves.

Stripping furniture is a messy, time-consuming process. And sometimes the results aren’t as great as you had hoped. Fortunately, you don’t always have to resort to stripping to restore your furniture to its original luster. And since you’ll preserve the patina and character of the original finish, your furniture will retain the beauty of an antique. One word of caution, though: If you think your piece of furniture is a valuable antique, consult an expert before you do anything.

A mixture of ground pumice stone with a few drops of vegetable or linseed oil will correct rubbing alcohol damage to wood furniture if the alcohol only damaged the finish. Mix the the pumice stone and oil in a bowl until it makes a paste. Put the paste on the damaged area and gently scrub the area with 0000 aught steel wool. Wipe away the excess paste with a clean, damp cloth; then polish the furniture with a high-quality polish or furniture wax. If the rubbing alcohol has damaged the wood itself, the damaged area will require refinishing.
